Working group 5: Networking and knowledge exchange
Working group 5 focuses on networking and new knowledge exchange through numerous channels; connecting experts, researchers, and stakeholders to share knowledge and advance sustainable non-chemical weed management practices. Through training, networking, and digital outreach, it ensures broad dissemination of research findings and fosters long-term collaboration across sectors.
Planned activities
Events of the Action
Training Schools – Interactive sessions combining theory and practical excursions to farms and processing facilities, helping students, young scientists, and professionals gain hands-on experience.
- Organized throughout the project, lasting 2–5 days
- Open to both consortium members and external participants
- Held in different countries, hosted by partner organizations
- English or local language, depending on the audience
Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) – Research exchange programs promoting collaboration between institutions, particularly benefiting young scientists (under 40 years old).
- 2–4 weeks exchanges between institutions
- Strengthen research cooperation, focusing on young scientists
- Special attention to Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs)
- Participants submit reports shared on the Action's website
Workshops and Conferences – Annual events gathering experts from different sectors to discuss sustainable weed management and future research needs.
- 2–4 workshops per year to consolidate and share research results (details are described in WG2, 3 and 4)
- Hosted in different countries, including farm or industry visits
- National-level conferences plus a major international conference at the end of the project
Publications
Aimed at scientists, farmers, policymakers, and the general public.
Types of publications:
- Scientific articles in English
- Technical guides & policy recommendations (e.g., weed atlases, best practices for non-chemical weed management)
- The relevant handouts are translated into different languages of Action partners.
A potential comprehensive book compiling all findings is under consideration.
Digital and social media
Website – Central hub for project information, updates, and results.
YouTube Channel – Showcases training materials, new technologies, farmer experiences, and recorded events.
Social media – presence to engage students, researchers, and practitioners.
Objectives
- Facilitate knowledge exchange among researchers, industry experts, and policymakers.
- Promote international networking to strengthen cooperation in sustainable weed management.
- Organize high-impact events (training schools, short-term scientific missions, conferences, workshops, etc.) to engage professionals and the public.
- Publish accessible materials (scientific papers, technical guides, policy briefs) in multiple languages.
- Leverage digital tools to enhance outreach and long-term collaboration.
Expected outcomes
The main outcomes of working group 5 will be a well-connected international network for sustainable non-chemical weed management, and increased adoption of innovative weed control strategies through training, publications, and digital platforms.
