The Agrifood Research and Technology Centre of Aragón (CITA)

The Aragon Agrifood Research and Technology Centre (CITA) is a public research institution focused on improving the profitability of agrifood businesses and the quality of life. Sustainability in agriculture and forestry is a key area, with agroecology as a research priority. CITA promotes the bioeconomy and circular economy through collaborations, pilot studies and living labs. Its research is divided into four departments, including Plant Science, which studies fruit trees, horticulture, medicinal plants and truffles.

Role in the project

Juliana Navarro

Juliana Navarro Rocha leads the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) research group, specialising in the selection of local MAP chemotypes, their cultivation in drylands and the study of their bioactive properties through optimised extraction processes. It collaborates in national and international projects and works with private companies.
Her group's expertise includes obtaining bioactive compounds from natural sources using pilot-scale extraction methods (steam distillation, organic extraction and supercritical extraction), optimising and scaling the MAP value chain from wild collection to novel ingredient formulations, and coordinating field trials to test agro-ecological innovations. They will also focus on capacity building, stakeholder engagement and knowledge transfer.
In this COST Action, Juliana Navarro Rocha leads working group 3 - Sustainability, performance and profitability of new innovations and technologies - coordinating activities in this area and ensuring collaboration with other working groups.
