New Opportunity for Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) This Summer!

During the summer months July to September 2026, our COST Action CA23123 weedingMAPs can offer a number of exciting Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) in various topics and countries.

STSMs enable researchers and innovators to visit partner institutions, exchange knowledge, and develop new collaborations across countries. STSMs strengthen capacity building, accelerate scientific progress, and provide participants with practical experience, networking opportunities, and long-term research partnerships.

Several weedingMAPs partner institutions offer a range of interesting topics for an STSM (please find a list of topics below under "Related Files"). STSMs are expected to last for two to four weeks with grants available up to 4'000 Euros. The grant provides a contribution for travelling, accommodation and subsistence expenses, implementation of the project, delivery of the report to the COST Action MC and overall effort.

This call is open until Monday July 6, 2026. All STSMs need to be completed and reported by September 30, 2026 at the latest.

Application Process

Applications must be eligible (see Annotated Rules for COST Actions) and in line with the Action research topics. The applications will be ranked by the Grant Awarding Coordinators based on:

  • Scientific quality
  • Feasibility of the approach proposed
  • Benefit to the development of the COST Action
  • Appropriate proposed budget

The selection will follow the COST policies on inclusiveness (gender, age, geography). Individuals who applied to the call will receive the results of the selection by July 7, 2026 at the latest. Please note that the selection process is based on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The selected individuals should wait for the official invitation from the Grant Holder before booking any travel arrangements!

How to apply

Applications are submitted via the cost.eu e-services. Applicants are requested to complete an online form and upload the completed document "STSM Application Template" (available for download under "Related Files"). For more information about the application process, click here.
