Working group 2: Barriers and drivers for the adoption of NCWM strategies in MAPs

The goal of WG2 is to identify and catalogue the barriers and drivers for the adoption of NCWM strategies along the MAPs value chain. Particular attention is given to socio-economic factors.

Planned activities

Working group 2 has the following two tasks: Task 2.1 Comprehensive catalogue of the legal, regulatory and programme framework; Task 2.2 Detailed analysis and description of the decision-making process.
Task 2.1 focuses on utilising the whole potential of the established COST network for the creation of a comprehensive catalogue of the legal, regulatory and programme framework for the adoption of NCWM strategies in MAPs. The starting point is the European level with documents and policies such as: 1) "Directive on Sustainable Use of Pesticides"; 2) European Green Deal legislative and programme package, with special attention to Biodiversity and Farm-to-Fork strategies published by the European Commission on 20 May 2020; 3) Common Agricultural Policy 2023- 2027. From the European level, WG2 moves on to the barriers and drivers for the adoption of NCWM strategies included in Member States' implementing measures of the directive, the strategy and policy. In all three cases, the Member States have the obligation to implement the European legislation and the European strategic assumptions.
Task 2.2 develops a detailed analysis and description of the decision-making process at farm level. As the research on drivers of farmers' choices on weed management is relatively recent, it is the network's task to gather and share all existing national data.

Objectives

The objective of working group 2 is to create a comprehensive catalogue of legal and formal barriers and drivers for the adoption of NCWM strategies in MAPs. Another objective is to propose socio-economic recommendations to influence the decision-making process regarding the adoption of NCWM in MAPs at farm level.

Expected outcomes

The following deliverables are expected: Report "Overview of the European legislation and programming impacting the adoption of NCWM strategies in MAPs"; Collection of best practices "The national formal and socio – economical drivers and incentives stimulating NCWM practices; White paper on barriers and drivers for the adoption of NCWM strategies in MAPs.
