Core Group Meets in Zaragoza to Advance Non-Chemical Weed Management

On 21 and 22 September 2026, the weedingMAPs COST Action (CA23123) held its second in-person Core Group Meeting in Zaragoza, Spain. Core Group members and Working Group leaders gathered to review progress, showcase research, and plan activities for Year 3.

Hosted at the Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentaria de Aragón (CITA), the two-day meeting provided a platform to evaluate the progress of Year 2 and lay out key strategic goals for the project's next phase. 

The meeting opened with a welcome from Action Chair Anja Vieweger, followed by an overview of CITA's activities in medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) presented by Juliana Navarro Rocha. Working Group leaders across WG1 through WG5 presented progress updates and outlined key targets for Year 3. Additionally, coordinators shared updates on Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs). 

Participants toured CITA's specialized facilities, including the distillation and extraction pilot plant, laboratory, and germplasm bank. The team also discussed communication and dissemination strategies, finalized Year 2 reporting drafts, and worked together on the Year 3 work plan and budget. 

The second day featured a presentation on the QDPAM project, followed by a field visit to CITA's experimental farm to view field trials focusing on fertilization, irrigation, and non-chemical weeding strategies.
